The Guimaras oil spill incident (slideshow, Greenpeace SEA site)

The Greenpeace southeast Asia site hosts a slideshow on the clean up operations in Brgy. Tando, Guimaras that involved local fishers and Greenpeace volunteers. The Greenpeace photo gallery contains 18 jpeg images. The pictures show the thick oil sludge deposited along the beach from the M/T Solar 1. Project Sunrise photo gallery

First to come up with a website in relation to the oil spill was the provincial government of Guimaras in partnership with the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI), and with fund assistance from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). Called Project Sunrise, the website was put up on August 18, a week after M/T Solar 1 carrying 2.1 million liters of bunker fuel sank in the Panay Gulf, south of Guimaras. Reporter's Notebook is an investigative show aired by GMA Channel 7 in the Philippines. It features stories and materials culled from the reporters' files but which were not included in the regular news programs. The episode on the Petron oil spill was aired on 22 August 2006. The first part of the feature has been posted in YouTube.
