CBCRM Resource Center and NFR comes out with joint statement

The CBCRM Resource Center and the NGOs for Fisheries Reform came out with a joint statement on the Petron/Solar 1 oil spill off Guimaras island in the Philippines. Entitled Hold Petron and Sunshine Maritime accountable for the oil spill. Hold government equally accountable for failure to perform its regulatory role., the statement noted Petron's failure to concretize its claims of corporate responsibility in light of its inability to prevent the disaster and retrieve the damaged tanker. The statement also hit the government for its negligence in enforcing maritime and environmental regulations. The Petron/Solar 1 oil spill is now considered one of the worst cases in Philippine history, with around 200,000 to 300,000 liters of oil having already leaked out from the damaged tanker and its 2.2 million liters cargo. read full text of statement...
