Small Grants for Research in CBCRM: General guidelines

The small grants for research under the CBCRM Research and Learning Fund encourage interaction among communities, institutions, ideas and methods in CBCRM. The program is being administered by the Learning and Research Network (LeaRN), through its Coordinating Committee which screens and approves proposals based on the guidelines below.

Guidelines for the small grants program

  1. The small grants are meant for community-based policy research and initiatives that are designed with the use of participatory tools, bringing researchers and research users in mutual cooperation.
  2. The principal approach is to support projects and partnerships proposed by individuals or institutions in the Asian region. However, this does not exclude South-North partnerships involved in a collaborative scheme in Asia.
  3. The participation of local people's organizations (POs) is encouraged. LeaRN's Network Coordinator or any designated staff would provide support to POs in proposal development.
  4. LeaRN will consider requests for small grants amounting to a maximum of U.S.$3,000.
  5. Stand-alone proposals for travel, conference participation, or training are not supported.
  6. Co-funding is generally encouraged but is not a requirement. However, local counterpart support is a requirement, which should at least be 10% of the total amount requested. It is also advisable for the proposed project to be linked with an existing initiative or plan to help lay the groundwork for such efforts.
  7. An accomplishment and financial report will be required by the end of a project. Other periodic reports may be required depending on the project duration.
  8. The grant recipient has the right to publish, in any form, the research results, or any other information produced as a result of this grant. However, the recipient needs to acknowledge LeaRN in its publications.
  9. After consultations with the grant recipient, LeaRN may also publish and distribute, or authorize a third party to publish and distribute the project results or any other information produced as a result of the grant. back to Small Grants page
