Small Grants for Research in CBCRM: Approved projects and grantees

The small grants for research under the CBCRM Research and Learning Fund encourage interaction among communities, institutions, ideas and methods in CBCRM. The research grant mechanism is now on its fourth grant cycle. Below is a list of grantees for the previous rounds.

First batch

  1. Women's Participation in the Sustainability of CBCRM Projects. PROCESS-Panay, 3 months. Aimed to determine the extent of women's involvement in CBCRM projects of PROCESS by documenting their insights through focused group discussions and interviews. read report ...
  1. Policy Research and Development of a Resource Management Framework for Palaui Island, Sta. Ana, Cagayan. Palaui Environmental Protectors' Association (PEPA), 3 months. Reviewed existing policy frameworks governing resource use and conservation in Palaui Island.
  1. Fisherfolk User Rights Regimes and Participatory Local Governance in Aklan. Developers' Foundation, 1 year. Completed a case study of a fisherfolk organization's campaign to ensure preferential access rights over a designated portion of Batan Bay in Aklan, Philippines.
  1. Measuring Local Capacity for Community-Based Coastal Resources Management in Vietnam. Center for Rural Progress (CRP), 1 year. Clarified concept of "local capacity" for CBCRM purposes by developing a set of indicators for measuring local capacity in CBCRM. read report ...
  1. Participatory Policy Advocacy Research in Zambales. Sentro para sa Ikauunlad ng Katutubong Agham at Teknolohiya (SIKAT), 3 months. Gathered relevant data on three (3) identified issues that affect the lives and livelihoods of fisherfolk in Zambales, Philippines.
  1. Participatory Market Study of Buri Craft Industry in Pilar, Santiago Island. Kaisahan ng mga Samahan Alay sa Kalikasan (KAISAKA), 1 year. Implemented a participatory market research on the buri craft industry in Pilar, Santiago Island, Bolinao in Pangasinan, Philippines. read report ...

  1. Sustaining Livelihoods in a People's Managed MPA: Participatory Environment-Friendly Aquaculture Research. International Marinelife Alliance (IMA) - Vietnam, 1 year. Tested three (3) livelihood options to identify the most appropriate scheme in a community-managed MPA.
  1. Socio-economic, Institutional and Policy Bases for Deciding Community-Based Mangrove Allocation in Selected Localities in North Vietnam. Forestry University of Vietnam (FUV), 8 months. Identified bases for designing localized forms of mangrove allocation.
  1. Mangrove Utilization in Panukulan, Quezon. Institute of Social Order (ISO), 10 months. Determined the extent of degradation of mangrove resources in Panukulan, Quezon in the Philippines as basis for policy advocacy.
  1. Coastal Resources and Use Patterns in Lakonea Village, North Buton, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia: A Baseline Study. Buton Coastal Area Development Network (JPKP Buton), 6 months. Generated baseline data on coastal resources in Buton towards further program development.
